Best Beer in Maine at Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford

Come experience the best beer in Maine at the Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford. This fun hot spot opened its doors in 2019. Plus, it’s located on a plot of farmland located just 6 miles north of our bed and breakfast in the western lakes district of Maine. Following the tradition of true Bavarian beer gardens, the Oxford location features comfy indoor and outdoor seating designed to encourage conversation and social interaction. Affiliated with the Oxbow Brewing Company in Newcastle, this newest addition features a restaurant/bar with a taproom next door offering 12 drafts on tap plus a large selection of their bottled and canned brews.

But it’s more than just a restaurant and taproom. In winter, the Oxbow Beer Garden maintains an extensive network of trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat bikes. So, before or after a day of traversing the fields and forest behind the beer garden, you can warm up with a hot pizza and a cold beer. Definitely the recipe for a winter hot spot of fun!

The Beer Garden

Oxbow Beer Garden is one of the featured stops on the Western Maine Beer Trail. Utilizing the clear spring water drawn from an Artesian well at their Newcastle location, the Oxbow Brewing Company creates craft brews with a distinctive European flavor. You’ll find an array of their signature farmhouse ales on draft at all their locations. But their offerings at the beer garden include lagers and saisons, as well as a variety of blended ales. Enjoy the warmth of heated tents and cozy fire pit tables while you sip and savor.

Scratch-Made Pizza

The heart and soul of the beer garden may be what’s on tap. However, pizza and beer are a marriage made in heaven. Using the yeast from the brewery to create the sourdough starter for the crust means that the two are uniquely related. All your favorite pizza toppings are on the menu, but some interesting combinations add just the right bit of spice.

Consider their Lomo pie. Topped with house-made loom (fancy ham), spinach, fennel, and pickled sultanas, your taste buds are in for a treat when this one arrives at your table. The Loaded pie features onions, mushrooms, and chilis beside pepperoni, sausage, and N’duja. N’duja is a spicy ground pork made from pigs raised at the brewery. Their mozzarella is hand-pulled on site, and the tomato sauce starts with tomatoes grown in their garden. We highly recommend starting with the Caesar salad too. Made with fresh kale, it is exceptional. Fresh, local, fabulous.

Kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and welcoming to all, this network of beautiful mixed-use trails offers something for everyone.
