Enjoy our locally sourced, Maine comfort breakfast and coffee from Carrabassett Coffee Company before setting out on your adventure. Then begin your self-guided Maine Libations Trail Tour, including Maine brewery tours and distilleries, selected from the following suggestions:

Lewiston/Auburn Area Maine Brewery Tours –

These brewers are a 15- 25 minutes drive from the Wolf Cove Inn.

Baxter Brewing Company – Tours of the brewery start Thu-Sun at 2PM. The tasting room is open from 3 to 9. Luke Livingston founded Baxter Brewing. Thanks to Luke, Clark University now has a rule that you can’t brew beer in dorm rooms! In the interest of environmental impact, Baxter beer comes in either cans or kegs – no bottles. Baxter features their brews at their on-site Pub featuring an extensive menu.

Side by Each Brewing – Open Tue-Sun – You’ll find this independent nano-brewery on route 11 in Auburn. They focus on high quality, sustainable craft brews. Be sure to try the poutine at Pinky D’s right on site.

Gritty’s Brew Pub – opens daily at 11 – Located in nearby Auburn, Gritty McDuffs has been brewing fine craft ales since 1988. They are a local, Maine favorite, frequently hauling in awards such as “Maine’s Best Brew Pub”, “Best Maine Microbrew” and “Best Bar” in statewide polls. Gritty’s serves some great pub fare so consider having lunch there if in the Lewiston/Auburn area around that time. Gritty’s also has pubs in Freeport and Portland.

Oxford/Norway Area Maine Brewery Tours –

Oxbow Beer Garden – Right off of route 26 in Oxford, only 10 minutes from the Inn. This place has a great vibe year round. It’s especially fun in the winter with their adjacent snow shoeing and cross country skiing center. So you can get some invigorating exercise in and the settle down in an outdoor, heated A-frame with some of Maine’e best beer and fresh from the oven craft pizza.

Norway Brewing Company – hours vary – check their website – Norway is about 20 minutes northwest of Wolf Cove Inn. A family-owned micro-brewery and restaurant right off route 26, they emphasize local ingredients in both their brews and menu offerings. Norway Brewing Company is the 2017 Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce “Rising Star Award” winner.

Portland Area –

The Portland area is southeast of the Wolf Cove Inn, about a 1 hour drive.

Cellardoor Portland – Thu-Sun – Located on Middle Street in Portland. At their winery in Lincolnville Maine, Cellardoor produces their own fine wines. They produce traditional varietals primarily using grapes from California, Washington and New York.

Maine Craft Distilling – Sun-Thu 12-5, Fri-Sat 12-7 – Employing a farm to flask spirit, Maine Craft produces artisan whiskey, gin and rum at the distillery in Portland.

And Beer! – You’ll find a whole host of local, craft brewers located in Portland. From Allagash to Geary’s to Shipyard Brewing Company, there’s plenty to keep you frosty in Portland. Check out the Maine Beer Trail infographic for more ideas.
