We Think These Are The Best Restaurants In Western Maine
Pizza and Suds
Oxbow Beer Garden, Oxford. This place is all the rage. Great beer, great pizza and a great vibe. Not only is their renovated barn a great place to eat, they have extensive covered, heated outdoor seating for year round outdoor dining. Folks love to snowshoe and cross-country ski their network of trails and then finish it off with beer and pizza. Now that sounds like fun.
Clam Shack
The Lost Gull, Oxford – I’ve eaten a lot of fried clams in my day and the Gull’s recipe is right up there and for sure the best I’ve had in the western Maine Lakes Region. The clams are plump, juicy and crispy with excellent flavor. I also highly recommend the fish chowder and the lobster roll.
Lakeside
Cyndi’s Dockside, Poland Spring – Located lakeside less than ten minutes from the Wolf Cove Inn, Cyndi’s Dockside has long been a favorite of guests of the Wolf Cove Inn. The focus at Cyndi’s is seafood. The pan-seared haddock sandwich is delicious. Just the other day one of our guests raved about the Pan Seared Scallops. And it wouldn’t be a complete trip to Maine without a lobster which they serve with a blueberry muffin (you are in Maine!)
Steakhouse
Mac’s Grill, Auburn – Mac’s offers a full menu but the specialty is steak. You can get your hand cut sirloin in many sizes from a 6 oz Wrangler Cut to a whopping 22 oz Grill Cut. Ask for the rub/sauce sampler tray to try them all before selecting what you’d like on your steak. Roy’s fav – the Tumbleweed rub. For an appetizer, definitely try the Garlicky Mussels.
Seafood
Fish Bones American Grill, Lewiston – Not to be confused with the chain Bonefish Grill, Fish Bones is set in the renovated Bates Mill complex and offers casual upscale dining. It has great atmosphere and the seafood dishes are varied and excellently prepared. The Portuguese Fish Stew is spicy and really yummy.
French Cuisine
At Maurice Restaurant Francais you’ll find classic French dishes along with Maine comfort food. They also have an extensive wine list covering all regions, but with plenty of French wine offerings.
Italian Cuisine
DaVinci’s Eatery, Lewiston – Also set in an old mill building in the Bates Mill complex, DaVinci’s Eatery is a local favorite with some interesting decor (there are bicycle’s and motorcycles here and there.) They offer a traditional Italian menu covering all the bases. If I can’t decide on something different I fall back to my favorite – the Seafood Pomodoro.
Asian Fusion
Orchid, Lewiston – Orchid specializes in Thai, Vietnamese and Sushi dishes. The atmosphere is eclectic and the food is very fresh and tasty. They have an extensive artisan beer list and large selection of specialty rolls making it the best restaurant for sushi.
Late Night (for Maine)
Village Pizzeria, Mechanic Falls – Located about five minutes north of the Wolf Cove Inn and open until 10PM. Village Pizzeria has you covered for pizza, subs, Italian entrees, fried seafood and other fare to bring back to the Wolf Cove Inn for lakeside dining or the late night munchies attack. They also have a full service bar. Closed on Sundays.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with the wonderful dining option at the Wolf Cove Inn, where we specialize in romantic getaways in Maine. We find that many of our guests, once here, just don’t want to leave. So we offer Tripp Lake Pizzeria for guests. So stay, have your dinner here, then enjoy the spectacular sunsets over Tripp Lake.
