Horseback Riding at Carousel Horse Farm

Explore the Maine countryside on horseback this winter. Carousel Horse Farm offers horseback riding trips in nearby Casco. Choose from a 1-hour or 2-hour ride designed for all levels of experience, even those who have never been on a horse before. You’ll be rewarded with sights of wildlife in a winter wonderland, such as white tail deer, squirrels and chipmunks, wood chucks, wild turkey, and if you’re lucky, a moose!

Ultimate Dog Sledding Experience

Try something a little different this winter. The Ultimate Dog Sledding Experience, located in nearby Oxford, specializes in dog sledding tours on groomed trails through the woods and fields of Hebron, Casco, and Bethel, Maine.

With a team of Alaskan huskies and German short-hair pointers, you’ll dash through the snow on a sled built for speed. These dogs are bred to run, and run they will, with abandon, pulling you and a companion through the snow-covered hills with a seasoned guide at the helm. Choose a 1- or 2-hour tour through the woods, starting with a 15-minute meet and greet with the dogs. These friendly pups love meeting new people, and may cover you in doggie kisses.

For an even more thrilling ride, sign up for the 3-hour mountain tour. Here, you’ll ascend 2,000 feet up a mountain side, and then careen downhill for a heart-pounding trip through the Maine wilderness. It may be a “once-in-a-lifetime” adventure, but one you’ll never forget.

For a truly in-depth initiation to the sport, the 2- or 3-day “Intro to Dog Sledding Package” is the way to go. You’ll learn hands-on techniques for harnessing and handling the dogs and tips and tricks for navigating the sled. For those of you who show real promise, you may be invited to hook up your own team on the final day of the tour.
