2023 Holiday Happenings in Maine

We look forward to enjoying all the traditional holiday activities in Maine this year. Come visit us at our cozy bed and breakfast this season and make holiday memories. Tucked in along the shores of Tripp Lake in Poland, we embrace the true essence of this celebratory time of year. Soon, our halls will be decked and stockings hung in anticipation. By late November or early December, our lakeside retreat will begin transforming into a winter wonderland, perfect for the season. All that’s missing is you.

Light up your holiday season this year! Throughout the region, fun festivals, tree lighting, and magical displays ignite the spirit in young and old. So, while making your list and checking it twice, be sure to add a holiday escape to Maine. GARDENS AGLOW

November 18 – December 31

Take a driving tour through the beautiful landscape of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, all lit up for the holidays. Be transfixed by the glittering lights dancing in the night sky. It is truly a winter wonderland; book your tickets early for Gardens Aglow. And make it a family tradition for years to come.

THE LIGHTS AT WHITNEY FARM

November 26 – December 31

Located in nearby Oxford, The Lights at Whitney Farm features:

  • An impressive light display with synchronized music
  • Concessions with homemade beverages and treats
  • A life-sized gingerbread house
  • Taking pictures next to a vintage sleigh
  • Festivities are open from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. An entrance fee applies.

FREEPORT SPARKLES FOR THE HOLIDAY

December 1-10 

One of Maine’s most popular holiday events, Freeport Sparkles lights up the night on Friday with a Parade of Lights through town. When Santa arrives, the talking Christmas tree springs to life. Be on the lookout for the “Stealth Elf,” who may reward shoppers with complimentary gift cards from local businesses. And enjoy shopping and dining at all of Freeport’s fine shops and restaurants.

KORA FEZTIVAL OF TREES IN LEWISTON

November 17-25

Head to Lewiston for the 18th Annual Kora FEZtival of Trees. Get your raffle tickets onsite or online to win one of more than 50 fully decorated trees. Perhaps you’ll be the lucky winner of the Maine State Lottery Tree, worth $500.00!

12TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREES

November 24-26

Held at the lovely McLaughlin Garden in South Paris, Maine, the Annual Festival of Trees returns this season to the delight of all. What can you expect from this event? Local businesses and organizations decorate dozens of trees. They are displayed on Saturday and Sunday for your viewing pleasure. Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to take a tree home with you. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to greet you after the parade.

POLAR EXPRESS

November 24 – December 23

Hop on board a vintage narrow-gauge train as it whisks you and your family to the “North Pole” in Portland, Maine. Board the beautifully restored train cars, all decked out for the holidays, for a trip that recreates the beloved children’s story, The Polar Express. Complete with cookies and hot chocolate, your favorite Christmas carols, and a souvenir bell, this trip brings out the child in all of us.

ROCKLAND FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

November 23-25

Where else can you see a Christmas tree built of lobster traps? The Rockland Festival of Lights returns this year with the annual lighting of the lobster trap tree on Friday night—Saturday brims with activities for the whole family. Be the first to spot Santa’s arrival by boat. Santa makes several appearances throughout the weekend. Nothing compares to the “Parade of Lights” on Main Street on Saturday night. Be sure to get a front-row seat for that event.

SLEIGH RIDES

For the ultimate winter romance, book a sleigh ride at the High View Farm in nearby Harrison, Maine. Dash through the snow o’er the fields and trails, all bundled up with your loved one. Top it off with a hot toddy and a sweet treat for an extraordinary addition to a romantic winter getaway.
